One of the fastest growing high-tech security systems specialists in Scotland, Cumbernauld-based VWS, has achieved national recognition for its ongoing commitment to apprenticeships and investing in young people across the company.

Networked video surveillance

VWS, which can lay claim to 31 years of experience in the field of networked CCTV, fire detection and security, has made the development, training, and promotion of young people a central plank of its five-year plan for growth and diversification.

Investors in Young People Scotland is the UK’s most successful framework for business improvement through people management, and offers an intensive evaluation and review process to companies of all sizes; providing a globally recognised accreditation.

VWS, which has 36 staff members, is committed to promoting from within wherever possible and fully half its workforce comprises either young people or managers and influencers of young people.

Encouraging apprenticeship

Business Development Director at VWS, Graham McMonigle, said: “In the past, we’ve had difficulty finding the right quality of people to hire, so we made a commitment some years ago to ‘grow our own’. We encourage work experience and apprenticeship so enthusiasm can be translated into skills.”

“We want to see the business grow in the long term and having enthusiastic, committed, and driven young people at every level is our way of not just giving back, but making sure the future looks that bit brighter.”
