In cooperation with a large German telephone and internet service provider, the public stock company artec technologies AG is establishing a mutual media data centre for internet TV and IP-based video surveillance services.
Core technologies for the project are the indexing procedure for media contents developed by artec technologies, as well as its CVoD (Continuous video on Demand) technology, patented in Germany. The pivotal distinguishing mark of the latter technology is its capability to call up and play back time-shifted contents even when they are still being recorded. In the area of digital TV, this function is known under the concept of time shifting. With it, viewers can turn on broadcasts, which are already running and yet still watch them right from the very beginning. Moreover, the running program can be paused at any time so that desired scenes can be called up and viewed. "Live-playback" can then be switched on again.
This function is the basis of all effective remote video surveillance such as the services provided by VdS-recognized emergency call service centres (NSL). Experience has shown that frequently after an alarm has activated a dial-up of the NLS, the event which triggered the alarm has meanwhile moved out of the capture zone of the cameras and is no longer to be seen in the on-going live surveillance. With artec technologies' patented time-shift technology, the NLS can immediately view the relevant images of that event even while on-going live images are still being recorded on site. In case of need, the NLS can then launch the necessary intervention measures without delay.
In the area of the remote video surveillance, the media data centre will make this patented functionality available to the connected emergency call service centres. Hosting and so-called "Managed Network Services" will also be provided in conjunction. As a network operation centre, the centre will monitor the continuous 24/7 availability of network connections and active components in real time as well. Any interruption or failure will be immediately recognised and prompt remedial measures implemented. Because the encrypted connections are continually monitored and protected against sabotage and intrusion (Intrusion Prevention and Detection System), they offer a fully equivalent substitution for standard dedicated-line connections.
The use of alarm message transmission by robbery, burglary and fire alarm systems is presently not permitted by the regulations of many public authorities and associations, but this will most likely change in the future. Yet even today, this technology, in addition to IP-based remote video surveillance, can accomplish complete remote facility management, and offer end users as well as NLS service providers genuine added value. All MULTIEYE video surveillance systems are compatible with the media data centre's technology and can be switched over to it when the corresponding WAN connection is extant. Accordingly, the MULTIEYE users of the more than 10,000 systems already in use today provide a considerable potential for this media data centre.
