SDC-435 colour/monochrome camera feature W-5 DSP chipset
Samsung Techwin launched the first four of its cameras and domes to be equipped with "Winner" DSP chipset
Samsung Techwin has launched the first four of its 24-hour surveillance cameras and domes to be equipped with the latest generation "Winner" DSP chipset, the new ‘engine room' of the company's mid-range product offering.

The W-5 chipset is designed to equip cameras with greater stability and articulated image processing to deliver ultra crisp and sharp colour images at 600TV lines resolution. A sense-up capability of 512x allows the cameras to capture superb quality colour images at lighting levels far below that of other day/night cameras.

Samsung Techwin's design engineers have included some truly impressive new technology into the W-5 DSP. Samsung Super Dynamic Range (SSDR), for example, is a progression on standard backlight compensation and automatically balances dark areas across the entire scene. This ensures that the dark areas become visible allowing operators to see objects hidden in the shadows.

One of the key new features available via the W-5 DSP chipset is the third generation of Samsung's highly acclaimed Super Noise Reduction technology. SSNRIII uses "Pattern Matching" to simultaneously reduce noise and maintain the object's edges in both static and moving images. SSNRIII removes image noise in low light conditions without creating ghosting or smear and can save up to 70% hard disk space on a digital video recorder, whilst maximising bandwidth when viewing over a network.

All the features incorporated into the W-5 DSP chipset are programmable via fourteen language on-screen menus that can be accessed remotely from the comfort of the control room using built-in coaxial control compatibility that allows both video and telemetry to be transmitted via the coaxial cable, giving full access to camera set-up and pan-tilt-zoom functions via a compatible digital video recorder. This technology offers the potential of real cost savings through the reduction of cabling infrastructure whilst providing flexibility for retro-fit applications by allowing existing equipment to be upgraded quickly and easily.

Samsung Techwin's first four cameras to feature the W-5 DSP chipset are the SDC-435 camera, the SOC-4160 camera, the SIR-4160 camera and the SIR-4260V camera

Other W-5 DSP chipset standard features include 12 individual privacy zones, digital image stabilisation and highlight compensation.

Peter Ainsworth, product manager for Samsung Techwin, explained the future for W-5: "The W-5 DSP chipset is the core technology that our next generation of mid-range camera and dome products are built around. We will incorporate the W-5 into a variety of products to ensure that the vast majority of applications can enjoy the benefits it offers."

The first four cameras to feature the W-5 DSP chipset are the SDC-435 colour/monochrome camera, the SOC-4160 colour/monochrome weatherproof bullet camera, the SIR-4160 true day night weatherproof bullet camera with built-in IR LEDs and the SIR-4260V vandal resistant true day/night dome camera with built-in IR LEDs.

As is the case with all Samsung Techwin professional security products, the four new cameras are supplied complete with a full three year warranty. All products are available to order now through distribution.
