If Alan raises £1,000 for Cancer Research UK, AMG Systems will donate another £1,000 |
Commenting on his motivation to join the 2010 event, Alan says: "I love a challenge and the Great North swim in Lake Windermere gives me an opportunity to raise money for Cancer Research, which means a lot to me, whilst enjoying some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. I know I am not quite as fit as I used to be, an age thing I guess, but hopefully I will be in top form to swim the mile in a decent time."
"I have the ambition of raising minimum £1,000 for Cancer Research UK and, if we reach that target, AMG Systems will donate another £1,000. I am asking everyone, from clients and business associates to friends and family, to dig deep and have set up a fund raising page to make it easy to contribute. Any donations to help raise funds for Cancer Research, no matter how small, will be received with gratitude."

Cancer Research UK is the world's leading charity dedicated to beating cancer. Their research has been at the heart of the progress that has seen survival rates for cancer double in the last 30 years. But too many lives are still devastated by cancer. It's vital that their work, which is funded entirely by the public, continues. By donating you will help Cancer Research get closer to the vision of beating cancer.
Windermere is England's largest lake at 10.5 miles long (17 kilometres), stretching from Ambleside in the North to Newby Bridge in the South. The breathtaking scenery of the Lake District acts as a natural adventure playground for the great Northern Swim, as well as Windermere being England's longest lake, it also boasts England's highest mountain - Scafell Pike - which Alan has scaled many times.
