| Sony IPELA HYBRID solutions are suitable for various surveillance applications |
Sony Electronics recently announced the introductory lineup of its new IPELA HYBRID solutions at the ASIS International Conference. These are comprised of the five Z-Series cameras including fixed-angle, PTZ and minidome models combined with receiver units. Together, these are suitable for a broad range of surveillance applications, especially upgrades to legacy analog/coax installations.
More than just a new series of security cameras, the Z-Series represents a new security category that goes beyond existing analog and network cameras. It delivers the industry's first network cameras capable of simultaneously transmitting both analog SD and IP HD images over a single coaxial cable. Sony hybrid cameras can deliver IP-functionality over coax as well as near zero-transmission latency analog SD images for real-time surveillance applications.
"The arrival of the IPELA HYBRID solutions changes the longstanding discussion of how and when to migrate legacy analog installations to IP systems," said Mark Collett, General Manager, Sony Security Systems Division. "There is now an entirely new value equation for those that felt constrained by their coax infrastructure. With the Z-series, adding HD imaging and IP functionality is more cost-effective and easier to deploy."
Collett added that the hybrid technology also exceeds Ethernet specs allowing for 1,000 foot cable runs with virtually no degradation of images and no need for translators or other appliances that require costly infrastructure improvements. In addition, this also allows those requiring real-time imaging for their applications to expand capabilities.
IPELA HYBRID Camera and Receiver Models
The introductory lineup of IPELA HYBRID solutions include cameras and receivers to cover most common security applications and are suitable for ad-hoc replacements for aging analog cameras or for making strategic upgrades to an entire legacy system. The Z-Series cameras take the versatility and broad feature-set of Sony's network cameras and, combined with receiver units, makes their capabilities available on a coax infrastructure. Common features for Z-Series models include:
- Multi-codec flexibility - choice of H.264, MPEG4 and JPEG alongside dual analog streaming.
- Day/Night function where the IR cut filter is replaced with a clear one in night mode to work with near IR illuminators.
- DEPA (Distributed Enhanced Processing Architecture) compatibility allows for advanced analytics to trigger alarms based on predetermined parameters when used in concert with DEPA-enabled Sony software and network recorders.
- Obstacle detection function detects changes in the video field such as when the lens is sprayed with paint or otherwise obscured.
- ONVIF conformance.
Individual models include:
- The SNC-ZB550 is a fixed-angle camera capable of HD resolution imaging (1280x1024) utilizing a 1/3-type Exmore™ CMOS sensor delivering 1.3 megapixels. Minimum illumination is 0.5 lux in color, 0.3 lux in B&W (note: all minimum illumination specifications are tentative).
- The SNC-ZM550/551 are minidome designs capable of HD imaging (1280x1024) utilizing a 1/3- type progressive scan Exmor™ CMOS sensor delivering 1.3 megapixels. Minimum illumination is 0.5 lux in color, 0.30 in B&W. The SNC-ZM551 utilizes a vandal resistant enclosure.
- The SNC-ZP550/ZR550 are PTZ cameras with 720P HD imaging (1280x720) utilizing a 1/4-type Exmor™ CMOS sensor delivering 1.0 megapixels. Both share a 28x optical zoom. The ZP550 affords a 340-degree field of rotation; the ZR550 is capable of 360-degree endless rotation and is suited to widearea monitoring applications. SNCA-ZX104 and SNCA-ZP104 receivers serve as the interface to as many as four Z-Series cameras each. The SNCA-ZX104 adds a serial port for PTZ camera (SNC-ZP550/ZR550) control from analog joystick controller (Pelco-D).
