Compro IP540 streams live video of the pets' activity to their owners' smartphones round-the-clock |
In Japan where being single is increasingly becoming the way of life for men and women over the age of 20, pets are gradually taking the place of children in the family. Today, there are estimated to be 25 million of dogs and cats living in Japan families, more than the number of new born babies and kids. Japanese businesses are quick to adapt to cater for the growing demand for pet care service.
Background
Hakozaki animal hospital is located in the Shibuya city, a satellite city of the metropolis of Tokyo. Over the years, this small but warm animal hospital has served local communities well, providing care and treatment for four legged animal friends of Shibuya residents.
But like many small businesses, the Hakozaki animal hospital is always on the look for ways to improve the quality of service and therefore to differentiate themselves from the competition. The animal hospital had planned to beef up its security infrastructure and build up a new IP-based surveillance platform that allows for the easy and efficient monitoring and management of the hospital at anytime and from anywhere.
Challenges
Several issues were at the focus of the animal hospital's implementation plan: easy management, day and night functionality, and mobile application. In discussion with one local system integrator, the animal hospital owner had stated that he needs to be able to check in on the pets in his facility from wherever he might be.
On the other hand, in order for the pets that stay in the hospital to sleep quietly and undisturbed at night, all lights must be off in nighttime, which means the IP cameras need to be fully operable in no-light conditions. Finally, a user-friendly mobile viewing platform must be provided, so his customers, the pet owners, can easily check in on their animal friends on their smartphones while they are not around.
Solutions
After talking with a local system integrator, the owner of the animal hospital selected Compro IP540 day/night PTZ camera featuring smartConnect technology, mainly for its ease of use and unique mobile viewing app, which are available free to his customers with iPhones and Android phones. The animal hospital installed two Compro IP540 PTZ cameras right before the pet cages to stream the live video of the pets' activity to their owners' smartphones 24/7. In nighttime, the IP540 delivered high-quality black and white images with its built-in IR illuminators. In addition, by taking advantage of the camera's megapixel resolution and mechanical pan and tilt feature, the animal hospital was able to keep the cost of installation down by reducing the number of cameras required, and still had a big enough area of coverage by the cameras.
Results
Since installing Compro IP cameras, the Hakozaki animal hospital has seen its business growing at a steady pace. With the newly installed IP camera and the ability to check in on the pets at anytime and from anywhere, the owner of Hakozaki animal hospital and his customers are finally offered the peace of mind. As a result, the animal hospital is rewarded with higher customer satisfaction, their repeat business as well as referrals.
