The Medical University of Gdansk, the largest medical academic institution in Northern Poland, inaugurated its state-of-the-art Academic Centre of Invasive Medicine in September, 2011. A six-storey building with a total area of over 64,000 sqm, the medical centre is furnished with the most cutting-edge medical equipment. It will serve as the country's leading research and clinical institution specialising in a broad range of surgery practices and intensive care.

To ensure the safety of those valuable assets, as well as that of patients and medical staff, the university was seeking a reliable, weatherproof outdoor surveillance solution capable of 24/7 wide-range monitoring with superb image quality for securing the perimeter.

Reliable solution for state-of-the-art facility

In search for the top-quality solution available to match with this state-of-the-art facility, the MESSOA NIC930HPRO network speed dome cameras were recommended for this project to meet the requirements. The NIC930HPRO was chosen for its wide coverage capability with the superior turbo-speed pan/tilt performance, zoom-in up to 324X and the superior low illumination performance backed by MESSOA'S Lumii™ III imaging technology. The IP67-rated housing with the built-in heater and blower makes this camera an ideal outdoor weatherproof surveillance solution to endure the sub-zero temperature in Gdansk's long wintertime.

To achieve a complete coverage, a total of 15 NIC930HPRO cameras were installed on the exterior of the building to secure every side and corner of the facility, including the main entrance facing a major carriageway. Leveraging on University's existing IP network, the digital images are transferred to a control site inside the building. They are then sent in bandwidth-saving H.264 format via the local area network to the university's Operator Station for centralised management with a back-end management system.

Superior pan/tilt performance allows pinpoint accuracy

After the cameras were deployed, what impressed the security staff the most was NIC930HPRO's 360-degree continuous pan operation range with a maximum pan speed of 430-degree per second. It allows the operators to quickly locate and follow any suspicious target or incident from the remote Operator Station. Operators are also able to browse real-time scaling images in high-resolution during both day and night, which significantly facilitate positive identification by showing every possible detail.

The NIC930HPRO network cameras support the industry's compliance standards to ensure full interoperability with the University's existing security system. This case has proven the MESSOA solution's flexibility and scalability to expand the security system in a quick and seamless manner.
