Campus authorities sought a video surveillance system to prevent thefts occurring whilst students are away

IQinVision, market leader in high-performance HD megapixel IP cameras, recently announced that Sonderborg Kollegierne, a dormitory campus in Denmark, has initially installed approximately 75 IQeye indoor and outdoor HD megapixel cameras to provide enhanced security for the students in residence. Necom is the integrator for this on-going project.

The Sonderborg Kollegierne campus consists of seven accommodation halls open to students from various universities within the Sonderborg area. At this time, all seven accommodation halls are booked with approximately 900 students in residence.

Campus authorities sought a video surveillance system to prevent and prosecute any thefts occurring during the day while students are studying at their university. Students had asked that the campus deploy a security system to ensure safety in the dorms, and Sonderborg Kollegierne also recognised that many parents now inquire if the dormitories have a security solution before sending their children to school. Hence, it was crucial that they install a system to ensure student safety. In addition to surveillance cameras, the campus also installed an improved access control system.

Management at the residence complex report "a decrease in burglaries of 75-80%" since the video surveillance was installed and "instances of vandalism have been reduced to virtually none."

Sonderborg chose only IQinVision cameras for this installation. IQeye Sentinel cameras are located outside on the campus in key locations and the campus authorities have been very pleased with the wide coverage area and excellent image quality provided by the 5 MP Sentinels. IQeye 4-series cameras were installed inside one of the seven dorms as a test environment for the other six dormitories. If the installation proves to be a success, the campus may choose to upgrade all dormitories with indoor cameras. The IQeye camera data is managed by Multieye NET video management system software. Campus administrators utilise video mainly for post-event analysis. All cameras are running at 6 frames per second. The campus has a robust fibre network which enables them to transmit the MJPEG images quickly without any bandwidth issues.

Sønderborg Kollegierne trusted Necom to provide a solid, high performing security solution and Necom has full confidence in IQinVision technology. To date, there have been instances when campus authorities have sent video footage to the police and often the police are able to identify the burglar for prosecution.
