The video surveillance system at Vietnam Memorial Bridge incorporates the Fluidmesh and Pelco cameras

The ramps of the Vietnam Memorial Bridge, which crosses the James River in Richmond, Virginia, are quick to freeze over in winter. As part of the Pocahontas Parkway linking Interstates 95 and 295, the bridge provides a Southern bypass of Richmond and accommodates an especially heavy volume of traffic.

Challenge:

Transurban Group, which runs the tolls and maintenance for the Vietnam Memorial Bridge in Richmond, Virginia, sought to install a video surveillance system to monitor road conditions.

Some of the special challenges that the install presented include height and weather issues, including snow and high winds during installation.

Solution:

"Because there was no existing infrastructure, the Fluidmesh point-to-point wireless mesh network was absolutely the way to go for this installation," explains John Bodolay of Acme Technical Group, who served as integrator for the project.

Result:

This video surveillance installation, which got underway in the fall of 2008, incorporates the Fluidmesh 1100 and Pelco Spectra IV IP camera. The end-user easily realised the goal of acquiring video of the bridge. "The Fluidmesh product solution is rock solid and virtually self installs," Bodolay adds.
