Forum Health Centre - security surveillance provided by Mobotix
Mobotix cameras installed at Forum Health Centre to provide a comprehensive security system
The Forum health centre is an 8-doctor GMS practice, contracted by Coventry Teaching Primary Care Trust to provide primary health care to the residents of North East Coventry. The centre currently has 13,500 patients listed and provides them with services from modern purpose built premises in Wyken.

The centre has been the victim of a number of burglaries in the past, which have proved costly and have led to disruption to the day to day running of the centre. The health centre had an existing CCTV monitoring system in place which was somewhat limited. The quality of images provided were of no use when trying to apprehend the assailants, making the system ineffective.

The health centre needed an established reliable supplier to carry out the installation. All work had to be carried out whilst the health centre remained open with the minimum amount of disruption to staff, whilst observing the privacy of patients.

IP Security Systems was formed in November 2007 after its co-owners had worked together for 5 years. With over 15 years of industry experience and based locally in Coventry, IP Security Systems were the obvious choice for the job.

IP Security sourced the products for the entire solution from Mayflex. Mayflex is a successful, privately owned distributor with a respected name and a proven track record in partnering installers and integrators. Andrew Convery, co-owner of IP Security Systems comments, "We had a very strong, existing relationship with Mayflex which has been developed over a number of years. The support we consistently receive from our dedicated security sales representative, enabled us to spec in those products that were most suited to fulfil the requirements of the health centre."

The Mobotix cameras were chosen as Mobotix currently is the only network camera to date that is capable of storing smooth high-resolution video streams with 960 lines instead of the usual 288, including sound. This provides a quality image, which is what the health centre needed. Mobotix cameras are also more cost-effective than traditional CCTV video technology and more multi-functional thanks to its integrated computer and network connection.

The cabling used to provide the backbone to the installation was Excel cat 5e. Excel structured cabling, networking and physical security products constitute an end-to-end solution where performance, ease of installation and cost effectiveness are pre-requisites. When installed by an accredited Excel Cabling Partner (ECP) the Excel Cabling System is backed by a 25 year application warranty.

The LevelOne PoE hub installed combines data and power into the same network. This offers better flexibility to deploy such devices via a standard LAN environment without the need for an independent power supply from nearby outlets.

This combination of products provided the health centre with a flexible, easy to manage system with the potential for future cameras to be added in the future, should the requirement be there.

The Forum health centre can now provide a more secure environment for its staff and patients, with a modern, expandable security system.
